El Bosc, fim

Hoping you had wonderful Xmas days, we would like to suggest you a catalan film named "El bosc". Directed by Òscar Aibar and based on a story by Albert Sánchez Piñol that the author himself has adapted for the big screen. Starring North American actor Tom Sizemore, the films counts on the participation of well-known Catalan actors such as Àlex Brendemühl, Pere Ponce, Raquel Dalmases and Josep Maria Domènech.

The film, based on the civil war, is the story of a family that keeps in a secret a door to a fantastic world but at the same times suffers the war of Spain that took place between 1936 and 1939. It's highly recommended to get in touch with a part of our story that needs to be remembered and to enjoy the elements of fantasy Albert Sánchez Piñol uses to introduce and survive drama.

Orwell in Barcelona

George Orwell was in Barcelona some months after the Civil War started, in 1936. In his first pages of well-known book "Homage to Catalonia" he refers to the Ramblas as "big avenue where crowds of people were constantly wondering around and loud megaphones day and night with revolutionary songs". He joined the war fighting with a marxist party, POUM, and spent some days at the Observatory of the Poliorama Theather, from where he observed and fought against the Franco's army.  This theater building acted as a very strategic point towards defending the Ramblas and Catalunya Square.
